“Irregular Migration and Human Trafficking - International Standards for the Protection of Migrants at the Risk of Trafficking with Special Focus on Women and Children”

At the conference organized by the Regional Initiative for Migration, Asylum and Refugees (MARRI) “Irregular Migration and Human Trafficking – International Standards for the Protection of Migrants at the Risk of Trafficking with Special Focus on Women and Children” in Belgrade on February 27-28, 2017, ASTRA’s representative had an opportunity to hear the experience of a large number of actors from countries in the region working in the field of combating irregular migration and human trafficking. The largest number of participants paid special attention to the problems of unaccompanied child migrants and the lack of precise procedures for regulating their status. In the first part of the conference, panelists presented existing laws in their countries, including international documents relating to human trafficking, with particular reference to victims of trafficking among the migrant population. The representatives of civil society organizations also presented their experiences in field work with refugees and migrants, as well as the challenges they face in the identification of victims of trafficking among migrants. The last panel focused on the ways of cooperation between civil society organizations and state institutions in order to better identify victims and realize the rights of victims of trafficking.
