On April 28th, ASTRA – Anti trafficking action, organized the first meeting of Regional working group for monitoring within the third phase of regional project The Balkans ACT (Against Crime of Trafficking) Now! . The goal of the meeting was to share experiences of monitoring anti-trafficking responses on national levels, based on the Monitoring tool and its indicators, developed within the Project and to give recommendations on future monitoring process.
Meeting gathered 26 participants, representatives of Ombudsperson office, Ministry of Interior, Prosecutor office, Supreme court, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, representatives of social welfare institutions for human trafficking victim’s protection, professors, independent consultants and specialized civil society organizations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
At the meeting, Deputy of Protector of Citizens in Serbia, announced that the Draft of the Law on Protector of Citizens that includes establishment of mechanism of National Rapporteur for anti-trafficking within its office, is currently in the process of the public discussion and, hopefully, will be in front of the members of Parliament on the spring parliamentary session.
This is the result of ASTRA’s and its partners more than five years long work on advocating for establishment of independent mechanism of National Rapporteur for monitoring anti-trafficking response. Beside North Macedonia, Serbia may be another country from regional BAN project to get its National Rapporteur for anti-trafficking.
Since January 2018, ASTRA – Anti-trafficking action from Serbia and five other partner organizations from the region: International Forum of Solidarity – EMMAUS (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Women’s Rights Center (Montenegro), Center for Legal Civic Initiatives (CLCI, Albania), Open Gate La Strada (Northern Macedonia) and the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, are implementing the third phase of the regional project BAN III – The Balkans ACT (Against Crime of Trafficking) Now!
